US President Donald Trump might have been going over the top with his rhetoric to curb immigration to the US, but official statistics from the US State Department have revealed that Indians were granted 28% more visas in March-April 2017 while compared to the same period in 2016.
The official statistics have revealed that Indian citizens were granted 97, 925 visas in March 2017 and 87, 049 visas in April 2017. In 2016 totally 864, 987 visas were offered to the Indian nationals with a monthly average of 72, 082 visas in the non-immigrant category, as quoted by the Times of India.
On the other hand, there was a decrease of 40% to the non-immigrant visas offered to nationals of Pakistan while compared to the average of 2016 according to the statistics revealed by the Department of State in the US.
Pakistani nationals were granted 3, 973 visas in March 2017 and 3, 925 visas in April 2017 in the non-immigrant category. However, the Obama administration had granted a total of 78, 637 visas to Pakistani citizens in 2016 with a monthly average of 6,553 visas.
The US State Department was till now declaring only annual statistics for the number of visas approved and the breakup of each month for that year was not available. It is only from March 2017 that the monthly figures are being revealed now.
One of the Spokespersons of the US State Department was quoted by the News International as saying that the demands for visas is diverse throughout the year and is subject to various global and national factors.
