Leaders of the European Union are ready to acknowledge that Northern Ireland has the option of joining the EU in the future in case its electorates vote to unite it with the EU member state Ireland.
The leaders of the EU are holding a meeting in Brussels to approve the framework for divorce discussions with the UK that is all set to exit the EU in 2019, quotes The Times of India.
Officials of the European Union have said that a statement regarding this will mostly be added to the minutes of the summit that will be held in the absence of the UK Prime Minister Theresa May. This was revealed by the officials on grounds of anonymity as the summit of 27 leaders was still being readied.

It is unlikely that Northern Ireland will break away from the UK in the near future. However, a major percentage of the voters in Ireland had voted for remaining in the EU in the referendum held in last year June.
Last month UK’s Brexit Secretary David Davis had confirmed that if a majority of the Northern Ireland voters opted for exit from the UK, this would be honored by the UK.
This was as per the Good Friday agreement commitment that had led to the deal for power-sharing that had assisted to end the Northern Ireland’s bloodshed ‘Troubles’ that had taken toll of 3,700 people in the period 1968 -1998.
