No major change to US H-1B Visas has been implemented said Foreign Minister of India Sushma Swaraj. She added that Government of India is in touch with the US Congress and the US administration over the issue of US H-1B Visas.
Foreign Minister of India Sushma Swaraj allayed apprehensions regarding changes to the H-1B Visa program. She said that till now no crucial alteration has been implemented to this program. Indian IT and Tech professionals immigrate in thousands to the US through the H-1B visa program.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has strongly advocated a merit-based immigration system and this has been welcomed by the Indian professionals.
Swaraj made this statement in reply to the query raised by Rajya Sabha remember from the Congress Party Rajeev Shukla. He had raised concerns over the issue of H-1B visas. The Foreign Minister said that any revision that has been implemented so far was aimed at strict enforcement of the existing rules. These were aimed at curbing the misuse of the program, she added, as quoted by the Times of India.
Sushma Swaraj the Foreign Minister of India also assured Rajeev Shukla that the Government of India is closely observing the issue of H-1B Visa program. It is in touch with all the stakeholders to safeguard the interests of Indian techies and firms in the US, she added.
The statement made by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services on January 8, 2018, was also referred by the Foreign Minister of India. In this statement, it was clarified by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services that Trump administration was not planning any major revamping of the H-1B visas or proposal that would result in deportation of 100s of 1000s of H-1B visa workers.
