Even as the Brexit uncertainty continues and the UK all set to be drastically affected by a severe shortage of skilled workers, Migration Watch has suggested that the UK needs a new visa for immigrant workers. As per the report compiled by the immigrant research, non-political and independent immigration organization, the UK will confront an acute shortage of workers in diverse industries, including the construction sector by 2019.
The UK Tier 2 visas process that involves obtaining the Sponsorship license for Tier 2 visa and the Tier 2 visa is an expensive, arduous and red-tape process, added the report. To cater to the acute skills shortages that will be confronted by the UK upon its exit from the EU, Migration Watch has proposed a new UK visa for the immigrant workers that can have a validity of three years for the initial contingency period.
As per the new UK visa scheme for immigrant workers, the firms in the UK will have to first demonstrate that they have failed to hire local talents for these jobs. According to the report of the Migration Watch, the new visa for immigrant workers could be utilized for overseas workers in place of the Tier 2 visa and in instances wherein the vacancies could not be filled by nationals of the UK. The new visa could be utilized to address the skills gap for a few years, as quoted by the Workpermit.
However, the new UK visa for immigrant workers would not have a pathway for UK PR. Migration Watch also gave a hint that the sectors and jobs that would qualify for the new visa could be identified by the Migration Advisory Committee. It is an independent body that advises the UK government on immigration-related issues.
