0.5 million third nation immigrant workers are projected to arrive in Bulgaria in the next couple of years. This is with respect to graduates from diverse fields. This forecast has been made by the businesses in Bulgaria, according to the Labor Union PODKREPA.
The reason for arrivals of the huge numbers of third nation immigrant workers is the changes to the Labor Mobility and Migration Act. The changes were effected in March 2018, as quoted by the Novinite.
The changes permit an increase in the percentage of third nation immigrant workers to 35% from the existing 10%. This is applicable for Small and Medium-size Enterprises implying that 1 out of every 3 workers can be an immigrant.
Apart from this, the compulsory market test for Blue Card was eliminated. Employers are now no longer needed to prove that they were unable to find the required worker locally for last 6 months.
Valeriy Simeonov the Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria said that the concerns regarding potential issues are baseless. It is expected that around 300,000 third nation immigrant workers will arrive in Bulgaria, he added.
In 2017, 117 overseas workers from third nations had received the Blue Card. Majority of them are IT professionals from India, Russia, and Ukraine.
Additional 4,000 overseas nationals have been authorized for seasonal employment. These are mostly from Moldova and Ukraine. They have worked in shortage occupation such as Chefs, Receptionists, and Waiters. It has also been reported that businesses in Bulgaria are also looking for Masseurs from Thailand.
