Software giant Microsoft has backed a bill that proposes to end nation limit for US Green Cards and enhance their numbers. This is even as there is intense national debate over the immigration policy.
Chief Legal Officer and President of Microsoft Brad Smith said that the company supports pending bills to revamp the policy for US Citizenship. The major amongst the pending bills are provisions that end the nation wise limit for US Green Cards that are employment based. This is through the incorporation of High-Skilled Immigrants Fairness Act by Congress member Kevin Yoder.
Ending the nation wise limit for US Green Cards will positively influence Microsoft and its employees, said Smith. It will ease the infinite wait and backlog for PR. Currently; some of the employees have to wait for 20 plus years for their Visa. This is just because of their nation of birth, added Smith, as quoted by the Economic Times.
Microsoft also backs enhancing the percentage of US Green cards offered based on employment said the CLO. This is in recognition of the requirements of the advanced economy for top global talents, he added.
Smith said that the current limits for Green Cards have not been revised for past 3 decades. Revamping of the policies has been delayed for a while now, he added. The Microsoft President also supported bills that offer PR pathway to DACA immigrants.
Microsoft is a firm of immigrants in a country of immigrants said, Smith. Majority of our employees have grown up in the US he added. The firm has employees from 120 nations all over the world. This includes legal PR holders, Dreamers and highly skilled immigrants awaiting Green Cards, said Smith.
