There are many people who are making India proud on an international platform. One such man is Ashok Sridharan who made heads turn after he become the first Indian to hold the chair as a mayor of a German city. He stood in the election as a candidate of Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The man will take you by surprise
He won over his opponents in the German city of Bonn at the age of 49 years. What is more amazing is the fact that this man swept away as much as 50.06 percent of the votes to acquire the chair of the mayor, in the elections held on 13th September this year. There is another fact that can be added to the reasons of celebration.
A tough win
Sridharan acquired victory over the Social Democratic Party that has been ruling for as many as 21 years. It is exceptional how he could over throw such a long lasting and firm grip of the political party, over the city. The unexpected victory of the man of Indian origin made people curious of details about him. An attempt to discover this, revealed interesting facts.
The creation of a leader
His father is an Indian migrant and his mother was German. With his interesting background and amazing abilities, he was able to win the confidence of the Germans. It has been decided that Mr. Sridharan will assume the role of the mayor from the 21st of October onwards and the responsibilities will be passed over to him by the current mayor Mr Juergen Nympts.
Before participating in and winning this election, Mr.Sridharan served in the positions of treasurer and assistant mayor, in the municipal administration department of Koenigswinter town. In this election he won with absolute majority over two of his strongest opponents. He competed closely with Peter Ruhenstroth-Bauer of the SPD and Tom Schmidt of the Green party who secured 23.68 per cent and 22.14 per cent of the total votes respectively.
