International students who intend to apply to study in Malaysian educational institutions will no longer have to wait longer to obtain their VAL (Visa Approval Letter) for entering the country.

Datuk Professor Dr Rujhan Mustafa, EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) chief executive officer, said the Immigration Department has given its nod to implement the eVAL (electronic Visa Approval Letter), which will allow applicants to get the document the same day it is issued, hastening their travel process to Malaysia.

Dr Rujhan Mustafa was quoted by New Strait times as saying that with the introduction of eVAL service, delivery time would be considerably improved, making the process easier and quicker for students to enter Malaysia. He said that it was part of the continuous effort of the Immigration Department and EMGS to improve services for international students.

Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, the director-general of the Immigration Department, said the system will shorten the delivery time of almost a month. He said the trial phase for eVAL will begin from 15 October and continue up to 31 December.

Mustafar Ali said that the document is currently issued by the Immigration Department and then circulated by EMGS to the institutions that will then post the documents to students in their home countries. He said that from now on students will be able to access the electronic document through STARS (Student Application and Registration System) of EMGS just as it would be issued by the Immigration Department, allowing them to get to Malaysia faster.

Students who need a visa to enter Malaysia can do so now with a copy of the eVAL by applying for the Single Entry Visa from the Missions of Malaysia or other accredited centres abroad.

EMGS, the Higher Education Ministry’s wholly owned company, has been entrusted the responsibility to globally promote Education Malaysia and the applications’ management for a Student Pass to pursue higher education in Malaysia.
