Malaysia Tourism, which introduced an e-visa facility for Indian tourists recently, is now promoting itself aggressively in tier II and tier III cities in India.
Targeting India to promote tourism, Tourism Malaysia Director, Mohd Hafiz Hashim, who was in Mumbai recently, said that their country was expecting to draw one million Indian tourists this year and they were also targeting the tier II and tier III towns in this endeavour. Among its other plans, Malaysia Tourism is also pitching tourist products such as luxury travel, self-drive, sports, tourism, business travel, eco-tourism, among others, in order to tap niche tourist groups in India.
Commenting on the e-visa facility, Hafiz said that they were trying out various ways of making travel to Malaysia as smooth as possible, and e-visa was a major initiative on that front. He was confident of the fact that easing visa processes further would attract more Indian tourists to Malaysia.
India is said to be a major provider of tourism earnings of Malaysia. In 2015, 722,141 Indian tourists went to Malaysia, making India the sixth-largest tourist market for Malaysia. Indian tourists are said to have contributed revenue of RM2.6 billion in 2015.
