Russia has allowed soccer fans to enter its territory visa-free for the FIFA 2018 World Cup to be held during 14 June – 15 July 2018 and has decided instead to issue them Fan IDs — personalised cards of the spectators. This will please soccer fans a lot as they would not need to spend extra effort and a lot of money when travelling to Russia.
The US Russian embassy is commencing arrangements for visiting Russia sans a visa. Metro.co.uk quotes it as saying in a statement that in keeping with the Russian Federation’s legislation for the entry or exit of overseas citizens and stateless persons entering Russia as spectators for soccer events within the FIFA 2018 World Cup’s framework to be held in the cities of Kaliningrad, Nizhny, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Samara, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Novgorod, Saransk and Volgograd, the process is to be executed without issuing Russian visas.
To be eligible to be admitted to Russia, non-Russian citizens must have an authentic identity document (a tourist passport) and a Fan ID.
Any spectator who wishes to attend matches at FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia and any other individual who wants to get into the country next summer without a visa must have in person a Fan ID. People can apply for Fan IDs only after they have applied for match ticket/s and their applications have been approved by FIFA. People who wish to apply must do so at www.fan-id.ru.
