A lady entrepreneur in the UK has become the first councilor of a ward in the UK who is an India-born immigrant. 43-year-old Rehana Ameer had contested as an independent candidate from the Vintry ward in London City Corporation and was born and brought up in Chennai, as quoted by the New Indian Express.
Ms. Rehana has become the first India-born woman councilor to be elected to the London City Corporation and was elected to the Court of Common Council’s councilor.
In a conversation with the Press Trust of India Ms. Rehana said that it would be her priority as a councilor to ensure safety on roads, better quality of air, sound psychological health and improved representation of diverse business sectors in the negotiations for Brexit with the EU.
Developing London city’s presence overseas and promoting its businesses in the international business markets are also amongst her priorities added the newly elected councilor.
The richest local authority in the UK, London City Corporation manages the city’s cash funds of 1.3 billion pounds. 25 words are present in London city and each ward elects one councilor for representation in the City Corporation.
