Indian professionals are happy with latest Trump migration policy and its contours. The US the home of the free and the land of the brave is amongst the favored overseas destinations even today. After several tirades against immigration, US President Donald Trump is now focusing on merit-based immigration. This was quite apparent in his first address for the State of the Union.

Trump in his address focused on merit-based immigration regime. He demanded to end the visa lottery program as well as curbing immigration based on family, as quoted by the Economic Times.

All this is really delighting the several 1000s of skilled Indians who are awaiting their US PR in what appears to be infinite queues to them. Trump said that it is the need of the hour that the US shifts towards an immigration system based on merit. This must accept people who are skilled, who intend to work and contribute to the US society, he added.

Later, the official communiqué from the White House also echoed the speech made by Trump. It further elaborated that it was high time to execute rational reforms to the immigration system. This should prioritize individuals based on their skills and merits, added the statement.

Indian professionals are largely employed in areas that have a shortage of skills and thus are elated with the latest Trump migration policy.

Immigration Experts have said that the US has skills gaps and requires Indian professionals such as IT workers, STEM Researchers, Teachers, Professors, and Doctors. The inclination of Trump towards skilled immigration indicates that the US Government is likely to bring in policies to cater to skill shortages. This also includes skilled Indian professionals.
