US Visas

Just 6% of the sum of all Green Cards was given to job-based US Visas in 2016. This has been revealed by the report of the ruling Republican Party. It also observes that skilled Indian workers have more than a decade of a wait list for the Green Cards. Almost 112, 000 people were waiting for all job-based Green Cards as of 2017 November it added.

Even as there is high volt debate focused on immigration in the US, the report said that 140, 000 Job-based US Visas received the Green Cards in 2016. This was roughly 12% of the sum total of Green Cards offered in this year. It also added that almost 5 times this number provisional job-based visas such as H-1B were offered.

The report of the Republican Party further elaborated that around 1.2 million Green Cards were offered by the US in 2016. This gives legal PR and the chance to apply for citizenship later. Almost 800,000 Green cards were offered to people migrating to the US due to having US relatives. This is 70% of the total Green Cards offered, as quoted by the New Indian Express.

On the other hand, almost 140,000 Green Cards were offered to immigrants for job reasons. This is less than 12%. These were offered the PR based on needs of the US employers, their education, experience, and skills.

Out of these total 140,000 job-based Green cards; more than 50% were given to the children and spouses of primary applicants. Thus just 6% Green Cards were given directly to job-based US Visas, elaborated the report.

The share of Job-based Green Cards offered to people already residing in the US was 80%. These were transitioning from a Provisional Visa to PR.
