Israeli nationals are unlikely to receive US E2 visa notwithstanding the projections of the Department of State in the US they will receive them by October 2017. There was a sense of optimism at the beginning of 2017 for the several years old issue.
Department of State informed the American Immigration Lawyers Association regarding the failure of Israel to comply with certain mandatory reciprocal requirements for US E2 visa. The government of Israel’s proposal for investors in the US seeking on par with US E2 visa in Israel was deemed to be unfair. Thus the Israeli nationals have not been made available the US E2 visa, as quoted by the Workpermit.
The Department of State spokesperson said that the delay in issuing US E2 visa for Israeli nationals was due to lack of action by Israel to adhere to regulations. The statement released by the department said that regulations drafted by Israel for reciprocal E2 visa category for US investors have been reviewed.
The proposal was deemed to be unsatisfactory with respect to benefits for overseas investors through the E2 visa. They had been returned to the government of Israel with suggestions and detailed comments informed the Department of State. It had also been expected that Israel would swiftly amend the proposed regulations. Accordingly, the Department of State had informed AILA that Israeli nationals are likely to receive US E2 visa by October 2017.
The Department of State officials have now revealed that its expectations have turned out to just hope actually. Israel has not even commenced the work on the redraft of the regulations. This implies that the timelines specified by the Department of State will be missed.
