IT industry The Government of India has said that there was no need to worry regarding the proposed curbs on H1-B visas or the job security of the Indian IT professionals employed in the US as of now as the Indian government was engaged in talks with the US administration in this regards. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said that though four different bills have been introduced in the US Congress regarding H1-B and L1 visas but none of them have been approved. She also said that the government was engaged in the US administration at the highest level so as to ensure that the interests of IT industry and its professionals are safeguarded, quotes Times of India. The External Affairs Minister also added that necessary measures were being taken by the Government of India to make sure that the four bills presented before the US Congress do not get passed in their existing forms. Indian Foreign Secretary had met the members of the US Congress who were full of praise for the Indian professionals. Hence there was no need of any anxiety as of now, added Ms. Swaraj. It is being conveyed to the members of the US Congress that IT professionals from India are not depriving the US nationals of their jobs but in fact, they are making the US economy stronger by making a significant contribution to it, elaborated the Foreign Minister. Replying to the queries of the Members of Parliament during the Rajya Sabha’s question hour, Ms. Swaraj said that it would be inaccurate to say that there has been a transition in the policies of the US ever since Trump has assumed the office of the US President. It was also pointed out by the Foreign Minister that there have been divergent views regarding the H1-B visas in the US regime even before Trump assumed the office of the US President. The house was also informed by the Minister that the visa privilege given to the spouses of the professionals from India has also not been withdrawn by the US. The issue of totalization will be raised once again by India once it is assured that the jobs of the IT professionals from India in the US are secure, explained Ms. Swaraj.
