Increased Indians now settle in Belgium, Sweden, & Norway

Indians are increasingly choosing to settle in Belgium, Sweden, and Norway over traditional overseas destinations such as the US and the UK. This is as per the latest estimates and the actual figures are awaited. There was a decrease of 12% in 2017 in the numbers of Indians seeking the US Citizenship in comparison with 2016. On the other hand, there was a whopping 30% decline in their numbers for UK Citizenship Applications.

 

The numbers of Indians applying for citizenship of Sweden skyrocketed with an increase of 160%. On the other hand, it was a whopping 218% increase in the numbers of applications for Citizenship of Norway, as quoted by the Money Control. The high percentage was owing to the fact that the numbers are in 3 digits when compared to the 5 digits figures in other nations.

 

Immigration experts have said that the current trends indicate that Indians are choosing smaller but developed nations. This will continue for years to come, add the experts. The factors that are contributing to this trend include political ambiance in India. The continually enhanced pressure from locals in nations such as the US and the UK is another factor.

 

Nevertheless, the conventional overseas destinations such as the US and the UK continue to offer lucrative job opportunities. Several Indian youths will continue seeking them, add the experts. However, the numbers of Indians intending to go to nations such as Norway, Sweden, and Belgium will continue to increase. This trend will remain for years to come.

 

The total numbers of Indians in Sweden in 2017 was 25, 719. Out of this 15, 349 were NRIs – Non-Resident Indians and 10, 370 were PIOs – Persons of Indian Origin. Norway, on the other hand, had 7718 NRIs and 12, 300 PIOs.
