Maldives Immigration has said that Indians have not been denied Work Visas and refuted any such reports in the media. Mohamed Anwar the Immigration Controller of Maldives said that officers of Maldives Immigration do not discriminate while performing their duties. The authorities will continue offering Work Visas to Indian Citizens as per the regulations of the nation, he added.

Mohamed Anwar gave these comments while responding to reports in the media that the Maldives was denying Work Visas to Indian nationals. The visa renewal applications of the Indian nationals were also being refused, as per the media reports.

Anwar said that Indian nationals continue to receive Work Visas, Dependent Visas and Business Visas for the Maldives. This will go ahead as per the rules, he said, as quoted by the Economic Times.

Citizens of Maldives are required to have any former passports while arriving in India, said Anwar. However, any such protocols are not enforced by the Maldives for Indian nationals, he added.

A few of the premier Maldivian resorts had reportedly stated in job ads that Indians need not apply. This was as the Government of Maldives was supposedly refusing Work Visas to them, added these ads.

It had also been reported that overseas hiring agencies in the Maldives also agreed that of late there are certain issues for obtaining Work Visas for Indian nationals. Though, Indians were continuing to receive work permits in white-collar jobs, added the reports.

As per some reports, the Maldives Immigration Department had recently declined Work Visa to around 300 workers from India. These were hired by a firm based in Singapore working in the Maldives. It is engaged in constructing a modern airport in Male as per the reports.
