Indian workers must get their UAE Visas processed only by authorized visa agents said Vipul the Consulate-General of India in Dubai. They must also keep themselves aware, he added.

Vipul said that around 379 flight tickets have been offered this year by the Dubai Indian Consulate General. These were offered with the funds donated by the Indian community. It was for distressed Indian nationals that include stranded workers, people with health issues and seafarers.

Many flight tickets were offered to citizens from India who had arrived at the UAE through a visitor visa. These were unable to transform this visa into a work visa, said the CGI. He was speaking at an event organized to enhance awareness amongst the blue-collar workers, as quoted by the Khaleej Times.

Dubai Indian Consulate General Vipul said that the Indian workers must be aware of the latest industry developments. They must also get their visas processed from only authorized visa agents. They can also refer to the E-Migrate system, he explained.

Many of the Indian nationals who arrive through the UAE Visitor visa are cheated by the agents said Vipul. Workers must also verify their minimum salary and job designation prior to their recruitment, he explained.

More than 500 workers from India had assembled at the Al Qouz Amana Workers Accommodation to learn about diverse issues. These include National pension scheme, tobacco and alcohol abuse, and financial fraud. Many other issues that generally influence the workers were also discussed at the event.

The Indian Workers Resource Centre had organized the event. It was the first time that the CGI had participated in the worker's workshop for awareness. Many of the facilities offered by the consulate to distressed workers were also discussed by Vipul.

Alcoholics’ Anonymous spokesperson Bertie Sawhney and a doctor with Swatantara Dr. TC Satish also addressed the workers. They discussed the evil effects of alcohol and tobacco. Indian doctors support the initiative of the Consulate Swatantara.
