Indian travelers have spent a whopping 13.6 billion dollars in the US in 2016 that gives India the sixth rank amongst the top overseas markets in the US with respect to spending by the visitors. Around 1.17 million Indian travelers arrived at the US in 2016. India is also ranked in the 11th place in terms of the numbers of overseas visitors to the US in 2016.
The total number of overseas visitors to the US in 2016 was 75.6 million, as quoted by the New Indian Express. This includes visitors for leisure, education, medical and business purposes that totally spent 244.7 US Dollars across the US.
The arrivals of visitors fell by 2% and the visitor spending fell by 1% when compared with 2015. The Department of Commerce in the US elaborated in its updated annual report that this was the first decline after 2009.
Travel and tourism were the highest US services export for 2016 constituting 33% of the exports in services and 11% of the total exports revealed the report.
China with 33 billion USD, Mexico with 20.2 billion USD and India with 13.6 billion USD witnessed increase both in terms of visitors and spending. Indian travelers to the US increased by 4% and their spending increased by an impressive 14% in 2016.
Indian travelers are increasing their spending every year to the US in every annual report excluding 2009. In just ten years, US Tourism and travel exports to India have increased more than thrice. This has culminated in a record $ 13.6 billion in 2016, informed the Department of Commerce in the US. It also revealed that Tourism and travel exports constitute 66% of the total services exports of the US to India.
