India born Shefali Ranganathan is now the Deputy Mayor of the US city Seattle. 38-year-old Shefali was born in Chennai, India. She has already earned accolades as a policy wonk in the transportation sector. This is another achievement for the US national from India, as quoted by the Times of India.
Jenny Durkan the Mayor-elect of the US city Seattle selected Ms. Ranganathan to lead her transition team. It will consist of two other members. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Transportation Choices Coalition. It is a nonprofit that lobbies for biking walking and transit infrastructure in Seattle.
Pradeep Ranganathan the father of Shefali Ranganathan said that she was always outstanding at her college or school. This is an acknowledgment of her work in the transportation sector. We hope that this is an inspiration for young girls in the US and overseas, added Pradeep. Shefali migrated to the US in 2001 and pursued her studies at a US university.
Shefali was offered a job by the government in the area of ecological conditions in the Washington DC. This was even before the completion of her course, added Pradeep Ranganathan. She joined the Transportation Choices Coalition in 2014 as a Mid-level Executive. Later Shefali became its Executive Director, said, Mr. Ranganathan.
Shefali was elected as the business leader for the awards “40 under 40” owing to her commendable work in the light rail project. The awards program is compiled by the business journal Puget Sound.
Ms. Ranganathan will serve as the Co-chair of transition committee for Jenny Durkan. She will be joined by Lambros and Ron Sims. The committee will develop ideas on transportation, homelessness, and housing. It will act as pointers for immediate action to be taken by the new Mayor.
