Texas Indian-American community is assisting several hundreds of people devastated by Harvey Hurricane by distributing fresh food, essential and medical needs. Harvey is one of the most destructive storms in the history of the US.
Texas continued to witness massive rescue and evacuation operations. Fund raising to provide relief for victims of Harvey hurricane has also commenced. The complete neighborhood of the 4th largest city in the US and Texas City’s most populous have been flooded that has left the residents hapless and homeless.
The government agencies are working 24x7 for the relief efforts. The Indian-American community has also rallied with them offering all possible help in terms of rescue operations, food, and shelter, as quoted by the New Indian Express.
Sewa International, an association of the Indian-American community has already raised 100, 000 USD for the relief work. Gitesh Desai the Houston Sewa International President said that the association aims to raise 250, 000 USD in Houston and one million USD in the US.
Mr. Desai added that huge funds are required to support the mass relief operation for the upcoming weeks. It will take more than 6 months for the majority of the families to return to normal life elaborated Desai.
150,000 influential and strong Indian-American community is present in the greater Houston. India's Consul General in Houston Anupam Ray said that totally 30,000 people have been evacuated and the numbers of Indians amongst them would be some hundreds. He said that the Indian community in Houston makes him feel proud. It was incredible the manner in which the Indian community enhanced its efforts to collaborate with relief operations. This reflects the best traditions of the US and India added Ray.
