Indian-American CEO of a pharmacy firm has provided life-saving medicines in the storm upon being requested by a Texas hospital for a medication for the rare disease. The medicines were shipped from Orlando to Houston through one of the employees of the firm. The logistics firms were unable to ship the medicines overnight owing to the Hurricane Harvey.
Indian-American CEO and founder of the pharmacy firm Southside Group of Companies Harish Katharani said that Impavido costs 49, 000 USD and thus is not readily stocked for pharmacists. But it is the only oral treatment drug for treating patients’ ill with critical Leishmaniasis.
Katharani sent one of his employees to ship the medicine to Children’s Hospital in Texas amidst Harvey. It is the most powerful hurricane to affect the mainland US in last 13 years, as quoted by the New Indian Express.
In another incident, TexanPlus Medicare Advantage provider contacted Texas Medical Centre of Southside. TexanPlus enquired if the firm could offer services to the patients affected due to the hurricane.
Southside willingly came forward to offer healthcare services to the patients during the hurricane crisis in spite of not being contracted by the health maintenance organization.
Southside is a pharmacist operated and owned company found in 1992 by Indian-American CEO Katharani. They ship to more than 35 states specialty medication. Its pharmacies will work over the regular hours in the weekend. However, their nurses and pharmacists are available 24x7 to assist Texas residents to cope up with the health emergency in the hurricane.
Katharani arrived at the US in 1972 is a munificent donor to several charitable organizations. This includes Cancer and HIV research institutions, Liver Foundations, Hep-C Clinic, and MS Society.
