India has recently announced a relaxation in the existing e-visa policy for Chinese nationals travelling to India. This announcement was made coinciding with the visit of President Xi Jinping to India on October 11 and 12, 2019.
As per a Press Release by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, the liberalization of India’s e-visa policy for the nationals of China is from the perspective of fees for e-visas and the duration that the e-visas are issued for.
While the e-visa facility has already been available for Chinese nationals travelling to India, there has not been any significant increase in the number of travelers from China to India.
Incidentally, in 2018, only 2.5 lakh Chinese nationals visited India. On the other hand, as many as 7.5 Indians visited China during the same period.
In keeping with the new liberal policy, from October 2019 onwards, Chinese nationals will be able to apply for e-Tourist Visa (e-TV) for India with a 5 years’ validity and allowing multiple entries.
Visa fee will be USD 80.
Moreover, those Chinese nationals that require a single entry 30 day’s validity e-TV can get the same at a discounted rate of USD 25.
30 days’ e-TV for April to June will cost USD 10.
The existing 1-year multiple entry e-TV will remain, though at a reduced fees of USD 40.
