India ranked 4th for most Schengen visas applications @ 9.2 lakh+

India has been ranked 4th amongst the nations filing most Schengen visas applications and 9, 20, 699 applications were filed by Indians in 2017. This is as per the latest figures revealed by the European Commission.

The Schengen Visa is needed by those who intend to arrive at or travel within the Schengen zone comprising of 26 European nations. India jumped to the 4th rank in 2017 with 9, 20, 699 applications filed by Indians in 2017. This is according to schengenvisainfo.com. It is based on the numbers of Schengen visas applications received by the respective Embassies or Consulates.

Russia is ranked number 1 followed by China at the 2nd place and Turkey at the 3rd position for most Schengen visas applications. India was ranked 5th in 2016 and 7th in 2014, as quoted by the Hindu.

The most favored nation to visit for Indians remains France with 1.79 lakh Schengen Uniform Visas being offered to Indians by France in 2017. This was out of the total 2.01 lakh applications for these visas received by the Consulates of France in India. French consulates in India are at Puducherry, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and New Delhi.

On the whole, too, the maximum number of Short-term visas applications was received by France amongst the Schengen nations. It was 4.18 lakh plus over the total number of 32.65 lakh visa applications received by French Consulates all over the world in 2016.

The second highest number of visa applications by Indians was received by Germany. It was followed by Italy and Netherlands.

As per the figures of schengenvisainfo.com, more than 50% of the sum of visas received by Indians in 2017 was MEVs – Multiple-Entry Visas.
