The Queen’s Annual Birthday Honors list in the UK includes several India-origin immigrant UK nationals across diverse fields and the list is topped by Parveen June Kumar. The India-Origin immigrant Medic has been conferred the high-status Order of the British Empire Dames Commander for his services rendered to medical education and medicine.
Parveen June Kumar is the Professor of Education and Medicine at Queen Mary London School of Medicine, London University. The 74-year aged Professor is also the author and co-editor of a ground-breaking textbook published in 1989 titled ‘Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine'. This book is credited with betterment for education in medicine for nurses, doctors and students in training both at London and overseas, as quoted by the Times of India.
The India-origin Order of the British Empire’s Order of the Commanders includes the Professor of Criminology at University of Roehampton Aisha Kulwant Gill. She has been conferred this award for her services to tackle violence against women, honor crimes and forced marriages. This honor has also been conferred to the Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor at University of Essex Shamit Saggar for his services to public policy and Social Sciences.
It has been revealed by the UK Cabinet Office that 2017 marks the centenary year for the Queen’s Annual Birthday Honors and this year the awards have been the most varied with 10% of the recipients belonging to the minority and black ethnic community.
The other India-origin immigrant professionals who received the of the British Empire’s Officers Order include Sheffield Hallam University’s Head of Law and Criminology Sital Singh Dhillon for services in the field of higher education; Lloyds Banking Group’s Head of Group Fundraising and Colleague Volunteering Dr. Kamaljit Kaur Hothi for services in the banking sector.
