India opened a new passport and visa application centre in Jubail in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia to provide its own and Indian citizens living in and around it with greater ease of access to passport facilities and visa applications.
Ahmad Javed, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, inaugurated on 14 October the new facility, which will allow people wanting to visit India submit their visa applications and the Indian diaspora to apply or renew passports.
The insistence for the centre was necessitated as the number of Indian expats living in the area has increased. With this new centre, the number of Indian facilities in the Saudi Arabia grew to 11 in Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, this is the seventh VFS Global centre for passport application services in Saudi Arabia from where people wanting to visit India can submit applications for new passports or get them renewed, besides making use of attestation services.
Javed was quoted by Gulf News as saying that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia houses more than 3.2 million Indian expatriates. He said that it had always been the Embassy’s endeavour to provide services to the diaspora as close to their doorsteps as possible.
Javed explained that they had put in place several steps to improve services and the opening of the Jubail’s Passport and Visa Application Centre of India was another measure in that direction.
The centre would be open to the public from Saturday to Wednesday.
