India has extended its E-Visa facility to attract more numbers of Chinese travelers. The Medical and Conference attendants are also now being offered these visas. Only 240, 000 travelers from China arrived in India last year in spite of the E-Visa facility. This is against the 1.4 million travelers from India who arrived in China in the same period, as quoted by the Business Standard.
Special campaigns were held by K J Alphons the Minister of State for Tourism in India accompanied by some 20 Tour operators. This was in Shanghai, Wuhan, and Beijing as a part of initiatives to attract more travelers from China to India.
The announcement for extension of E-Visa facility by the Indian government was made by the Indian Embassy in Beijing. The Medical and Conference attendants are also now included in the groups receiving this facility.
Earlier, Chinese nationals attending conferences in India required clearances from New Delhi for the visas. Overseas travelers visiting India with certain specific objectives are offered the E-Visa facility. This includes for medical treatment, yoga program of short-term, visiting relatives and friends, sightseeing and recreation.
The applicants of E-Visa must have a passport that is valid for minimum 6 months from the arrival date to India. It should also have minimum 2 blank pages for being stamped by the Immigration Officer.
Overseas travelers applying for the Visa must possess a ticket for return or onward journey. They must also possess adequate cash for expenses during their stay in India. Those who possess Pakistani origin or Pakistani passport can apply for a normal Visa at the Indian Mission.
