Indian union government has now included three more countries to whose citizens the facility of e-Tourist Visa would be extended, taking the list to 161 countries.
This was announced on 14 December in Rajya Sabha. Earlier on 5 December, eight countries had been added to the list, which included Uzbekistan, Slovak Republic, Italy and Azerbaijan.
The Press Trust of India quotes Mahesh Sharma, Tourism Minister, as saying in a written reply that the number of foreign tourists arriving in India on e-TV (e-Tourist Visa) between January and November this year was 917,446, which is a growth of 168.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
While adding that the government would extend the e-TV facility for the citizens of 161 countries, it was announced that the visa on arrival scheme would be extended to Japan too.
