India extends Business Visa validity for Overseas Immigrants

India is about to extend the validity of its Business Visa for up to 15 years. Also, it has decided to convert a regular Visa to a medical category in case of emergency. The country is to relax the grant of its Internship Visa as well.

The Internship Visa can now be obtained by a student pursuing a course in India without remuneration. Overseas Immigrants staying in the country on long-term Visa are now allowed to attend conferences.

Rajiv Gauba, Union Home Secretary has confirmed the news. He further added that in the last 4 years, the number of e-Visas issued has increased exponentially. In 2015, nearly 5.17 lakh Visas were issued to Overseas Immigrants. The number increased to 21 lakh this year.

The Business Visa will be extended up to 15 years. However, the extension will be done for a period of 5 years at a time. Mr. Gauba announced the changes at a conference. India wants to streamline its Visa system. The aim is to simplify the Visa process for Overseas Immigrants. The improved process would facilitate the arrival and stay of the Immigrants as well.

In the conference, Mr. Gauba announced that a lot of policy initiatives are being taken. As reported by NDTV, these modifications would liberalize the Visa system. Different Ministers of India have made suggestions for these changes. Policy changes for tourism, health, education and aviation will soon be announced, he added.

Mr. Gauba insisted that India wants to introduce a friendly Visa system for Overseas Immigrants. It means ease of doing business. Recently the e-FRRO system was launched. It eliminates the need for Overseas Immigrants to be physically present at the registration office. The website provides 27 different Visa related services. It has been the most successful initiative to date. He suggested that India should strengthen security as well by using technology.

Overseas Immigrants can get the Business Visa within 72 hours. Also, they can get Visa related to tourism, health and conference purposes through the electronic system. The e-Visa system now caters to 166 countries across the world. The Indian e-Visa system is presently one of the best in the world, Mr. Gauba concluded.
