Immigration is favoured globally claims report by WEF

Immigration is favoured globally as per the latest opinion poll revealed by the WEF - World Economic Forum. Mutual cooperation amongst nations is also favoured, adds the poll.

WEF is renowned for hosting the yearly economic summit in Switzerland at Davos. It conducted the opinion poll for 10,000 diverse individuals globally. The survey reveals that a majority of the people believed that collaboration amongst nations was very crucial.

The report was published by WEF in partnership with Qualtrics a web-based research firm. It claimed that the survey debunked and exposed the negative perception of immigrants pushed by many media outlets across the world.

With 57%, a global majority of the survey respondents said that they considered immigrants as largely good for their nation. However, some strong disparities were present regionally, as quoted by the CNBC.

The regions that were most welcoming to immigration were South Asia with 72% and North America with 66%. The stated percentages of surveyed individuals in these regions said that immigrants arriving at their nation were largely good.

Meanwhile, just 40% of people in east Europe viewed immigration favourably. 46% of Western Europeans considered immigrants as good for their nation.

South Asia also was on the top for another aspect. It was for agreeing that their own nation also owed a responsibility to assist other nations (94%). The global average of people concurring with this statement was 72%. However, just 61% of North Americans wanted to help other nations. This was notwithstanding their openness to immigration.

Klaus Schwab the Executive Chairman and Founder of the World Economic Forum said that the global public overwhelmingly desires that their leaders find fresh ways for mutual cooperation. This is for working together on the critical challenges faced by them all, he added.
