More immigrant inflow to the UK The candidate of the Labor Party from the East Ham electoral constituency Stephen Timms has said that the UK needs to increase immigrants from outside the European continent. The candidate for one of the most multi-ethnic constituencies in the UK also added that the net immigration target of the Tory manifesto restricting immigration to annual 100, 000 was fanatical, as quoted by the Times of India. Timms elaborated on the immigration scenario by saying that the current net immigration from outside the EU itself is more than 100, 000. He had also objected to the implication made by Priti Patel during the EU referendum that if there is decreased immigration from within Europe, more immigrants could be accepted from outside the European continent. The norms for immigration into the UK must be much more relaxed owing to the prospective economic benefits of immigration, explained Stephen Timms. In order to increase bilateral trade and investments from India after the exit from the EU, UK will also have to liberalize its immigration policies for India which was made very clear to the visiting UK PM Theresa May by India, elaborated the Labor Party candidate. Owing to the concerns regarding the unrestricted movement of working professionals many people had cast their votes to leave the EU in the Brexit referendum, said Stephen Timms. This is also the central theme of the single market concept and if elected representatives do not pay heed to their electorates, it is a failure of their duty, added Timms. On the other hand, Conservative party candidate who was born to Gujarati Indian immigrants in Uganda and moved to the UK Shailesh Vara said that his party was not in favor of ending immigration but to reduce it. The Conservatives party is in favor of appealing to overseas immigrants whose skills and talents are much needed in the UK. The immigration flows to the UK will be restricted and not ended, added Vara. Discussions are already midway between India and the UK regarding bilateral trade deal after UK’s exit from the EU, explained the Conservative party candidate.
