Germany Many UK nationals are now worried that the exit from the EU will put an end to the UK’s membership of the EU single market and restrict their movement within the EU nations. The countdown to the 2019 exit from the EU for the UK has begun with the conclusion of the snap general elections. However, the hung parliament and the coalition government have cast its shadow over the nature of the Brexit talks. The number of UK nationals who received the citizenship of Germany increased by a whopping 361% in 2016, as revealed by the Germany’s Office for Federal Statistics. And the reason for this huge increase is that most of them are now worried that exit from the EU will make it tougher for them to work or live in the European Union. Official statistics have revealed that 2,865 UK Nationals accepted the citizenship of Germany in 2016, as quoted by the Indian Express. The numbers are going to rise astronomically for the year 2017 as several months are required to avail the passport of Germany, elaborated the Germany’s Office for Federal Statistics. It also added that there is a very clear link between Brexit and the increasing number of UK nationals accepting the German citizenship. Office of Federal Statistics in Germany said that in 2016 overall 110,400 overseas nationals accepted the citizenship of Germany which was an increase of 2.9% when compared with 2015. The highest increase in acceptance of the citizenship was for the UK nationals. 16, 290 nationals from Turkey accepted the German citizenship which was a decrease of 17.3% while compared with the previous year. On the other hand 6, 632 nationals of Poland accepted the citizenship of Germany which was an increase of 11.3%. The UK is scheduled to exit from the EU in 2019 and the electoral disaster for Theresa May has resulted in her retaining the office of the Prime Minister.  But the reduced majority means that it is going to be a tumultuous Brexit discussion in UK Parliament that retains its authority for defining the overall strategy for the exit talks.
