H1B Visa: New registration process begins on 1st March

The upcoming H1B Visa filing season is the only time of the year that the USCIS accepts H1B Visa petitions for speciality workers for the next financial year beginning on 1^st October 2020.

Your visa petition is eligible in the H1B category if:

• Your job offer is in a speciality occupation
• The minimum requirement of the job offer should be at least a Bachelors (or equivalent)
• The H1B beneficiary should hold at least a Bachelors (or equivalent) in the speciality required by the job position

The H1B Visa is the most popular Visa in the USA, and there is an overwhelming demand for it. The US has an annual quota of 85,000 for the H1B Visa per year. The number of H1B approval requests has reached the annual cap every year for the past ten years.

The USCIS received more than 201,011 H1B Visa petitions in the first week itself of the petition period last year. The US then conducted a random lottery to select 85,000 visa spots.

New registration process in 2020

The US has introduced a new registration process for the H1B Visa for the FY2021. The new registration period will run from 1^st March to 20^th March 2020. The registration process will start ahead of the filing window that starts on 1^st April.

Employers seeking to file an H1B Visa petition will need to complete an online registration process first. The online registration process requires employers to provide basic details about the employer and the employee. They will also need to pay a registration fee of $10.

The US will conduct the lottery process once the registration period is over. Selected applications will get 90 days to file a complete H1B petition with the USCIS.

The USCIS will release more information about the new registration process as the registration period approaches.
