The US Permanent Resident Card more popular as the Green Card and the Employment Authorization Document will be redesigned by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and these will be effective from May 1, 2017. This is a part of the Secure Identification Document Project for Next Generation, quotes USCIS GOV.
Fraud resistant security features and enhanced graphics have been used in these new redesigned cards that are more tamper resistant and highly secure when compared to the existing designs of these cards. It is a measure by the USCIS that reflects its dedication to counter fraud and tampering of documents.
The redesigning initiative is a joint venture of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and USCIS to increase the security of documents and check fraud and counterfeiting.
The newly redesigned EADs and Green cards will display the photo of the individual on both the sides. It will also feature a unique color palette and graphic image. Image of the statue of liberty and green palette will principally feature in the Green card and image of a bald eagle and red palette will principally feature in the EAD cards.
These cards will no more feature the signature of the individual and will have holographic images embedded in them. Moreover, the optical stripe that was present on the back side of the green cards will no longer be present.
Some of the EADs and Green cards that have been issued by the USCIS after May 1, 2017 may be of the previous format and design as the department will issue these cards until the existing supplies of cards are exhausted. The validity of the old as well as the new EADs and Green cards will be indicated on the respective cards.
