As per a May 29 announcement by the Greek Ministry of Tourism, Greece has decided to open its borders for travelers from 29 countries – EU and non-EU – that have registered a decline in the rate of COVID-19 infections.
From June 15, nationals from these 29 countries will be allowed to travel to Greece for non-essential purposes, such as tourism. As per the Ministry, flights to and from Thessaloniki and Athens will resume in mid-June with most of the specified 29 countries.
Nationals of the following countries will be allowed to travel to Greece from June 15 –
Australia | Germany | Japan |
New Zealand | China | Norway |
Switzerland | Finland | Israel |
Austria | Czech Republic | Denmark |
Bulgaria | Malta | Slovakia |
Estonia | Albania | Northern Macedonia |
Croatia | Serbia | Slovenia |
Montenegro | Romania | Cyprus |
Latvia | Lebanon | Lithuania |
South Korea | Hungary |
The Ministry has mentioned that the list – of countries whose nationals will be allowed to enter Greece for non-essential purposes – will be expanded by July 1. The new benefiting countries will be announced accordingly in time.
From July 1, airlines are to be allowed to recommence direct international flights to the Greek Islands, including flights like London to Corfu, Zurich to Santorini, Frankfurt to Mykonos, among others.

The Ministers, in their joint statements, has clarified that there will be a gradual reopening of the borders while monitoring the situation in Greece as well as in the countries benefitting by the doing away of border restrictions.
