Introduction of visa on arrival to obtain a Ghanaian visa for citizens of the other African countries

Mustapha Hamid, the presidential spokesperson of Ghana, said that the introduction of visa on arrival to obtain a Ghanaian visa for citizens of the other African countries will improve the call of the AU (African Union) to step-up trade among countries in the African continent.

Ghanaweb quotes Hamid as saying during a summit that trade volume among African nations was found to be low according to the AU.

He said that to promote trading in the continent, the AU believed that other countries in Africa must ease restrictions for one another. Open borders will boost the unrestricted movement of people and goods in the ‘Dark Continent,’ Hamid added.

Ghana had reportedly initiated several measures to allow the other African countries to promote trade.

Hamid added that it was possible for other citizens of the continent to enter its territory and get a visa on arrival instead of obtaining one from their country.

According to him, out of the yearly budget of the AU of nearly $400 million, member states contribute around $150 to $170 million while the remainder is sponsored by non-African players.
