5 Fraudsters have been sentenced to 31 years in jail in the fake UK Visa scam. They ran a fake Bangladeshi visa scam and wrongly claimed 13 million £ in tax repayments.
Abul Kalam Muhammad Rezaul Karim aged 42 years and London law student was the gang leader in the organized crime group. They set up 79 fake firms and created false documents. These were used by the nationals of Bangladesh in the fake visa applications.
The group also used the firms to illegally reclaim 13 million £ in tax repayments from the HMRC. The funds were obtained from the HM Revenue and Customs over a period of 6 years, as quoted by the Telegraph Co UK.
It was found by the officers that Karim charged clients for Provisional Visas intending to remain in the UK. This was along with the group members Mohammed Tamij Uddin, Jalpa Trivedi, Kazi Borkot Ullah, and Enamul Karim. The minimum charges were 700 £ cash for their fake immigration services.
The UK Visa scam group claimed that their clients were employees as a part of their immigration and tax fraud. They created bogus pay slips and offered false data. This was for around 900 UK Visa applications to ensure Tier 1 Visa eligibility.
An inquiry into their unlawful activity was the longest ever conducted. This was by the Criminal and Financial Investigation team of the Immigration Enforcement.
The sentence for the defendants was announced on 23 November at Southwark Crown Court. Ullah, Enamul Karim, and Karim were sentenced in their absence. Warrants have been issued in their absence.
Karim has been sentenced for 10 years and 6 months while Enamul Karim for 9 years and 4 months. Ullah has been sentenced for 5 years and 10 months. Trivedi has been sentenced for 3-year jail and Uddin for 2 years and 6 months.
