Russia has opened specialized visa centres in four Indian cities - Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. The move is to simplify and accelerate Russian visa process for Indian citizens. These visa centres will offer documentation services and perform technical activities to reduce process time and issue more visas.

On an average, 30,000 Indian tourists visit Russia each year, which is way less compared to any other country visited by Indian tourists. A recent research conducted by Russian officials discovered that most tourists do not know much about Russia's visa rules and the travel time it takes.

"The majority of respondents, who we questioned, were certain that it took longer to travel to Russia than Europe, when in fact the opposite is the case.” said Alexander Abramov, Lex Systems Director General.

Applicants can either visit the visa centre for any enquiries related to the visa and appointments or can book an appointment by visiting the visa centre website. Visa fee can be paid in cash directly while submitting the application. That said, the visa approval or denial remains at the sole discretion of the Consulate in India.
