Foreigners can gain entry into India via five seaports with e-visa

Foreigners with e-visa will be allowed to enter through Indian five seaports Foreign nationals with e-visa will be allowed to enter India through its five seaports located in Chennai, Goa, Kochi, Mangalore and Mumbai, said an official of the Home Ministry on 1 December. Meanwhile, the official also added that exclusive immigration counters will be in place at the five seaports and 16 top airports of the country. It was also reported that foreign nationals who earn a minimum salary of INR1, 625,000 per annum would be issued employment visas. On the other hand, people involved in the academic field need to be earning a minimum salary of INR910,000 per annum to be issued the same. India has decided to extend to tourists coming on e-visa a stay in the country for a period of up to 60 days, an increase from 30 days allowed for them earlier. The Union Cabinet also gave its go ahead to unify the business, conference, medical and tourist visas into one. In addition, foreigners wishing to gain professional experience in India would be given an internship visa. It was also decided to henceforth rechristen the eTV (electronic tourist visa) as electronic visa, which foreign visitors can apply through the online portal.
