Sault Ste. Marie is the first city in Northern Ontario to offer Canada’s Startup Visa Program. The Startup Visa Program is designed to entice foreign entrepreneurs to set up their businesses in Canada.
The Economic Development Corporation has received certification under this program. It will, from now on, organize and deliver the Startup Program. The program will be delivered at Sault Ste. Marie’s Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship.
Interested foreign entrepreneurs can now submit an application for the program. Applicants will be given a letter of support if their application is accepted into the small business incubator. With the letter of support, applicants can submit their visa application to the Federal Govt. Successful entrepreneurs would be able to migrate to Canada to establish their business ventures.
Dan Hollingsworth, Sault EDC Exec. Director, says this is a tool to attract foreign investment and entrepreneurs to the city. The EDC staff is trying to attract talented foreign entrepreneurs from all across the world. Not only that, but they will also help successful applicants with startup support once they immigrate to Canada. This will create more jobs and economic opportunities in Canada, as per The Sault Star.
