Finland is now welcoming creative overseas Entrepreneurs and is offering them Residence Permits. Authorities in Finland have received 100 plus applications globally for the program. Majority of the applications are from India and Russia accounting for around 50% of the Residence Permit applications.
Overseas Entrepreneurs who are non-EU nationals can arrive in Finland for implementing their business project through this program. The state organization Business Finland assesses the prospects of the business idea. The creators of high-tech Start-ups are usually offered the Residence Permit.
The Finland Residence Permit is normally offered to the Start-ups for 24 months. It can be extended through the same scheme subject to demonstrating the project viability. The overseas Entrepreneur is offered the Residence Permit including for his spouse and children.
Other nations in the EU are also transforming the Visa policies for Entrepreneurs. In Estonia for example, the Start-up Visa program was launched in 2017. It has received 300 applications within 12 months, as quoted by the Mice Times Asia.
Portugal is also planning to simplify Investor Visas and ease Visa policies for overseas Entrepreneurs.
Overseas Entrepreneurs will require the Entrepreneur Residence Permit to work as Entrepreneurs in Finland. The following individuals are considered as Entrepreneurs:
• Partner in an Executive position in a limited company or some other corporation – Board member or Managing Director
• A cooperative member who has an infinite obligation for contribution
• An active partner in a partnership that is limited
• Partner in a partnership that is general
• Sole-proprietor of a business owned individually
• Start-up Entrepreneur
The application for a Residence Permit is processed in 2 phases. Firstly, the Centre for Economic Development, Transport, and the Environment assess your company for its profitability. This is based on your financing and business plan among other aspects. Then the decision on the Residence Permit is issued by the Finland Immigration Service.
