UK has silently accepted that EU nationals rights arriving before 2019 March will be protected. This is after the number of EU workers from 27 nations arriving at the UK decreased drastically. It thus blew apart any talks for an earlier cut-off date, said EU sources in affinity to negotiations.
On March 29, 2017, the UK Prime Minister formally informed the intention to quit to the EU. The UK meanwhile claimed that setting the date for March 2019 will be disastrous. It would over flood the nation with nationals from 27 EU bloc members before the exit. These EU nationals rights would also have to be protected contended the UK, as quoted by the Guardian.
However, there has been a steep decline in the numbers of EU citizens arriving in the UK after the Brexit vote. Thus the UK negotiating team silently accepted the argument of Brussels, revealed a senior EU source. EU had said that there should be no discrimination amongst the citizens of EU till the time Brexit was formalized i.e. March 2019.
The entire situation has been revealed by one of the diplomatic sources with knowledge of the closed doors discussions. The UK has been getting accommodating with regards to the cut-off date. It initially was unwilling this to be set as the Brexit date. However now it is very evident that the date will be the Brexit date, said the source.
The reason for this change in heart is the developments that have occurred in the meantime. People have either stopped coming or are coming in lesser numbers from the EU to the UK. Some are quitting the industry, pointed out the NHS.
