The EU has introduced a new travel authorization system which aims to streamline travellers visiting countries in the European Union. The new system is called the European Travel Information & Authorization System (ETIAS). The ETIAS is a visa-exemption system and will supplant the visa-free travel that is available to 61 countries in the world.
The ETIAS is a travel authorization system and not a visa service. Nations who have visa-free travel to European countries will be eligible for this service. The ETIAS system has been designed to safeguard the twenty-six countries which form the Schengen Region.
ETIAS will allow visa-free travel for as long as 90 days. The ETIAS will have a validity of 3 years from the date of issue. However, if your passport expires before the validity of your ETIAS, your ETIAS stands cancelled.
The ETIAS will follow an online application process. Applicants will need to answer some questions within the given time frame. They will also need to submit their biometrics along with the below details:
First name
Last name or family name
Maiden name (if applicable)
Place of birth
Date of birth
Country of birth
Nationality
Gender
For minors also, an ETIAS online application would be needed.
You will not be allowed to study or work while travelling to the EU on the ETIAS. The ETIAS will only apply to business and tourist activities. You can stay in the country of visit for a maximum of 90 days. You may visit other countries for transit or medical reasons.
ETIAS will be effective from 2021, as per New Day Live.
