Egypt extends the maximum stay period on Tourist Visas to 5 years

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently announced that the maximum stay period on Tourist Visas would be extended. Earlier, the maximum stay period on a Tourist Visa was 90 days. Now, the stay period, under the new rules, may be extended to up to 5 years. The extension can be done through the online visa portal or Egyptian Consulates worldwide. The Egyptian cabinet has also decided to provide entry Visas for tourists coming from the US, the UK and the Schengen Zone. As part of the “Summer in upper Egypt” initiative, Egypt would also offer a $10 discount on Tourist Visas for tourists coming to Egypt through the Luxor International Airport. The Visa fee for a single-entry Tourist Visa for Egypt is $25 and $60 for a multiple-entry visa. The Foreign Ministry of Egypt had announced in June 2019 that it had completed the e-Visa project. The e-Visa project provides online Visa facility to over 46 countries in the world. The e-Visa is a single-entry Visa mandatory for those visiting Egypt for tourism, business or transit purposes. The maximum stay period on the e-Visa is 30 days. Egypt has introduced the new Visa rules to attract more foreign tourists to the country. The Foreign Ministry also plans to make Visa issuing easier for businessmen, hoping to increase the flow of investment into the country. To obtain an e-Visa, you must have a passport which is valid for more than six months. You will also need to submit your travel itinerary, invitation letter and hotel bookings as supporting documents. The tourism sector in Egypt has seen a 23% jump in revenues in 2018-19 compared to the previous fiscal year. The industry recorded earnings of $12.2 billion in 2018-19 compared to $9.8 billion in the last year.
