Dubai airport immigration counters now have Face-reading smart gates. You can clear immigration at its airport within 5 seconds, all thanks to the new facility for face recognition.
Travelers to Dubai are no longer required to wait in long queues at immigration counters for stamping of passports. This was revealed by the officials of the Residency and Foreign Affairs General Directorate. Face-reading smart gates have been installed at the Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3. This has decreased the passport control of travelers to just 5 seconds, added the officials.
The new face reading smart gates can be availed by travelers with E-gate and Skywards cards, registered passports or Emirates ID cards. They can thus avoid long queues and directly head to their flights. It can be done without any in-person clearance from a passport officer.
Around 23 Face-reading smart gates have been installed at Terminal 3 departure hall. This has reduced the time for passport clearance to just 3-5 seconds, as quoted by the Khaleej Times.
GDRFA’s Airport passport sector General Director Assistant Brigadier Talal Ahmad Al Shanqeti elaborated on this new generation technology. He said that the new smart gates open via face recognition. Thus it is no more required to take fingerprints of travelers for scrutinizing passports, he added.
When travelers arrive or depart from Dubai, their passports are stamped by the passport control officials. They also take their face recognition and biometric data. Next time when the same travelers use the airport, their passports are already registered. The new smart gates will open via face recognition added the Director. Around 150,000 travelers have utilized the facility of smart gates by now, added General Director Assistant Brigadier.
