Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection has announced the list of skilled occupations for 2017-18 which comes into effect from July 1, 2017. The Long-term and Medium Strategic Skills will now be applicable for Graduate Temporary Subclass 485 Visa, Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visa (un-nominated by any State or Territory), and Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189 Visa, as per the DIBP Australia.
The Skilled Occupation List Short-term will now be applicable for Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa or Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visa, said the DIBP Australia.
DIBP Australia in a press release quoted Peter Dutton the Immigration Minister as saying that this updating of the list of skilled occupations will make sure that the list remains responsive to the needs of the labor market.
It has also been announced by DIBP Australia that the government will review the reforms to the skilled occupation lists every six months. This will ensure the best results for both the employers and employees alike, as quoted by the SBS.
The government had held elaborate deliberations with the industry, Department of Education and Training and Department of Employment prior to updating the lists.
Peter Dutton the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection in Australia said that the skilled occupation lists are designed to remain active. Updating of lists periodically is just one of the measures of the government to enhance the reliability of immigration sponsored by the employers. It also aims to increase the productivity of overseas skilled immigrants, added Dutton.
As a part of their visa application, all applicants will now have to undergo compulsory criminality checks.
All applicants of Australia permanent skilled visas will have to appear for stringent language requirements for English and decreased age requirements.
