London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that he is deliberating with UK government to change tough visa laws and he said that the current visa norms are highly wrong. Khan arrived in Mumbai as a part of his first formal tour to three cities in India. He will also be visiting Amritsar and Delhi. His visit is aimed at enhancing the trade ties of London with these cities.

Addressing the reporters, Khan said that he is a big critic of the UK government regarding the tough visa laws. It is a huge mistake, he added. UK government is appealing to businesses in India to trade in the nation. But it has made it tough for them to arrive in the UK, added Khan.

The UK government had recently made changes to its policy for visas for non-EU nationals. This was aimed at curbing increasing immigration. The changed policy for visas has become effective from November 2017. It will affect a large number of professionals in India, especially IT, as quoted by the Economic Times.

Sadiq Khan said that he is lobbying with the UK government to change its policy on immigration. This is because talented Indians must arrive in London instead of moving to the US, Canada or Australia. London will always be welcoming partnership, talent and people, added the London Mayor.

India had flagged its grave concerns to the UK over the tough visa laws in November.

The London Mayor said that change in existing UK laws for immigration is needed in the interest of London. London city is greatest in the world and one of the reasons or this is its ability to attract talents. 40% of the residents of London are from outside the UK said, Khan.
