Mary Senge, a Cameroon citizen, has been produced before the Abuja court of Nigeria. She was produced before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja.

The EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) arraigned Mary Senge on 4 counts. She was booked for forgery and getting money on a false pretext.

On 27th July 2018, Mary had obtained 2,765,751 N from John Abila. She falsely represented herself and told John that she could get a Canadian Visa for his brother Lekeaka Gilbert. She was, hence, booked under Sec  1A of the Adv. Fee Fraud & other Fraud-Related Offences Act, 2006. This is punishable under Sec 1-3 of the same Act.

Mary, however, pleaded not guilty of all the charges, as per The Punch Nigeria.

Best Ojukwu, the counsel for the prosecution, requested for a trial date. He argued that the defendant should be kept in police remand.

However, Evi Ofou, the counsel for the defence, applied for a bail application orally for Mary. He explained he was running short of time to file a bail application due to the closure of the High Court and public holiday the following day. He, however, promised that his client Mary would be available on the day of the trial.

However, the prosecution counsel opposed the bail application. He stated that the defendant Mary was a Cameroon citizen and may flee the country.

Justice Banjoko granted bail on the condition of paying off 5 million N and providing 2 sureties. The Sureties should be civil servants who lived within the jurisdiction of the court. They should also own landed properties and provide proof of tax payment for the past 3 years. These tax payments should also be certified by the FIRS (Federal Inland Revenue Services). The Sureties will also need to provide 3 photographs (passport size) to the court registry.

Mary Senge has been remanded to Suleja Prison till she is able to meet the bail conditions.
