The Chinese Ministry of Public Security has announced that it would introduce a slew of friendly visa policies for skilled overseas workers in south China's Guangdong Province’s pilot free trade zone.
Chinese official media, quoting a ministry statement released on 18 July, said that there were 16 simplified permanent residence application processes and fast-track consents for skilled overseas workers in this zone which would provide assistance to start-ups floated by foreign students; hastened visas and residency application routes for expatriate Chinese; and reduced limits for investors wanting to apply for a permanent residency in the zone.
According to the ministry, these new steps and policies for an exit and entry are based on the pressing demand in the free trade zone for talented foreign workers, Chinese expatriates wishing to come back and set up businesses, young overseas students and investors to understand and appreciate this zone’s innovation-driven development.
Among other steps are welcoming applications for a permanent residency from foreigners who satisfy the income and taxation criteria, hastening the transition of work permits for a permanent residency for highly talented workers and visa waivers for recruits from few countries at Guangdong customs within designated times. These steps will be effective from 1 August onward, the ministry said.
