“The ceiling on UK Skilled Visas along with crucial parts of the immigration policy is under review,” said Sajid Javid the UK Home Secretary. There is a perception issue regarding the issue to comprise overseas students in the net immigration figures he added.
Sajid Javid had become the UK Home Secretary in April 2018 after Amber Rudd resigned. He said that his top priority is to investigate the Wind rush scandal. This scam had resulted in the resignation of Ms. Russ, as quoted by the BBC.
The UK Home Secretary further elaborated that changes are already being implemented to the hostile ambiance approach towards unlawful immigration. Critics have said that this was the chief reason for the immigration-related issues.
The changes include revised curbs on unlawful immigrants’ rights to open accounts in banks. Javid said that 7 members of the Wind rush generation that had been wrongfully deported have been already contacted. Efforts are on to reach additional 24 he added.
Theresa May has already been demanded several times to exclude overseas students from the net immigration figures. In fact, it has also been asked to drop the unrealistic targets for reducing net immigration. Several leaders and people from all walks of life have made these appeals including Ruth Davidson the Scotland Conservatives leader.
Sajid Javid said that the criticism of the policy is understandable. He does empathize with the view that this policy does not sound very forthcoming, he added. If the students quit the nation it will not have any impact on the long-term. This is the perception that has issues around it, added Javid.
The UK Home secretary also said that the Tier 2 UK Visas another set of UK Skilled Visas will be reviewed.
